The Perfect Way to Cleanse

When we say cleanse, we’re talking about having beautiful, clean skin, not those trendy juice cleanses. It’s important to have a good cleansing routine to ensure you remove dead skin, toxins, makeup, and other detritus that your facial skin picks up throughout the day.

First, you need to remove your makeup. To do this you should use an emollient wipe, or cleansing oil. Then use lukewarm water and a small bit of cleanser such as our Exfoliating Cleanser. Then rinse and dry your face with a soft towel.

Ok, the basics are out of the way. So let’s go through a few questions you might have.

How often should I be washing my face?
It’s hard to say. There is no consensus on this number because, although you may think over-washing is best, it can lead to irritation and dry up your skin. If you are prone to dry or sensitive skin, washing at night is probably your best bet.

What type of cleanser is best?
This is totally up to you! You should be basing this purchase off of your skin type. If you aren’t sure what to get, let someone at the store know about your skin type and what you are looking for. If you have dry skin, or oily skin, you will need different types of cleansers.

How can I keep my skin moisturized?
A long hot shower can pull much needed moisture from your hair and skin. Make sure your showers are not too long, about 10 minutes in warm or lukewarm water is best. Using a daily moisturizer can help keep your skin at the optimal level. Our Daily Moisture from Skinceuticals is for normal or oily skin. For those with dry or sensitive skin, Skinceuticals Emollience is perfect for moisturizing.
